Portland (Français-André Robert, France, c. 1860)
This rose is know as one of the most fragrant and vigorous (yet compact) growers in the garden. Blooms begin bright pink and age to gentle, lilac-mauve pink. Repeat blooms come throughout the season. A great “first” Old Garden Rose for growers just getting started.
AKA – Madame Boll
Pronounced: ko(n)t duh sha(n)-bohr – from French Rose Names by Diana Bellucci

Brandon Garner –
The plant stays small. It is a nice flower. It is thorny, which was passed on to one of its offspring.
Duane Scheidemantle –
The first rose I ever grew, this one captured my heart immediately with its fragrance!
If you want an old rose that repeats its bloom this would be it.
A plant that stays in a confined space, compared to many old roses.
Jane Li –
This is the most fragrant rose I have ever grown, I really love its fragrance. However, it is also the thorniest of all. It stayed small never get too big. It was plagued by black spot, and the blooms doesn’t last long, they crisp in hot TX sun in no time. I eventually removed it despite the wonderful fragrance.
Lily Rose (verified owner) –
Comte de Chambord is a joy to grow. The deep pink blooms open slowly, soft and full, and the rose keeps flowering once it’s established. The smell is worth all the effort.
Emily Wheeler –
In my z5/6 Intermountain West garden, this rose has stayed very small and only blooms once in spring. The flowers are beautiful and nicely scented, though.
