Climber (Reimer Kordes, Germany, 1955)
Ash Wednesday is known for its unusual blooms that are colored with sliver-lavender and gray-mauve hues. Flowers are double and flat, with an almost quartered look. The petals are soft and gently ruffled with a mild fresh apple fragrance. Foliage is medium matte green and disease resistant. Ash Wednesday is a vigorous climber that is the perfect backdrop for any garden. Best reblooms in mild climates.

In my zone 5 garden, this rose mostly blooms once a year, but those blooms are so special. No winterization needed and a little blackspot, but to have this color on a vigorous climber is a unique experience!
