This review is of the rose only, as my experience with it predates my awareness of HCR (although they come highly recommended). This rose, while only once-blooming and with lightly fragrant smaller flowers of very simple form, provides year ‘round interest in either full sun or partial shade. It is exceptionally vigorous, tall and striking, with silvery (in part shade) to bluish tinged with purple or burgundy in more sun, all with showy burgundy new growth. Frosted plum- purple stems are attractive even without foliage, and contrast with orangey rose hips in fall. Wonderful rose for wildlife, and natural gardens, or to cover somewhat tall structures. I have seen it grow over 6’ tall even in climates with winters at its minimum cold hardiness, with little to no mulching or additional care. I have never seen it suffer badly from disease or pests, but of course, any fragrant rose will attract pesky Japanese Beetles. If you have a suitable spot and adequate space for this unusual rose, it is beautiful beyond just its blooms.

My parents have had this rose since I was a kid. It’s striking. I’ve always noticed its delicate pink blooms against the purple foliage.
