Monsieur Boncenne

Hybrid Perpetual (Jean-Pierre Liabaud, France, 1864)

We received our stock of this unique rose through the mail from a customer who was eager to see it back in commerce. It’s taken a couple of years to confirm it’s identity, but thank goodness he sent it! Monsieur Boncenne is a rare Hybrid Perpetual with cupped dark red velvety flowers on an upright bush. Opinions on fragrance vary, but I find it quite strong and pleasant. Repeat blooms in flushes.

Zone 9a Houston, TX. The plant is still young, not even a year old, but I LOVE the color. It’s just like the photo. So far this spring the fragrance is delightful. I have it planted in an area that gets dappled shade and so far no signs of blackspot or disease.

I am so glad I took a chance on this rose. It was even more beautiful than I expected!
It is establishing well, and is well worth the time, money, and space.
