Bourbon (Discovered by Marie-Louise Schwartz, France, 1888)

Madame Ernest Calvat is a beautiful shrub with an intoxicating scent emanating from very double quartered blooms of medium pink with soft raspberry and violet overtones. A prolific bloomer into late autumn in many areas. Thought to be a sport of Madame Isaac Periere.

  1. Rated 5 out of 5

    Anna C. Roosevelt (verified owner) – March 20, 2023

Madame Calvat is my best rose and the only Bourbon that survived in my Chicago garden. I’ve had mine more than 10 years. It is now a tall, very healthy, multi-caned shrub. It maintains fat (more than 1 inch diameter), apple-green canes all winter and shrugs off the attempts by rabbits to strip the bark. The rose blooms continuingly from Spring through early Fall, putting out roses all along its long, arched canes. The roses are fat and full, silvery pink and highly fragrant. They hold on well and keep coming even when I cannot dead-head promptly. I keep the petals for potpourri. A wonderful rose.

This is probably my best blooming bourbon! Pretty mid pink cupped blooms, and I recommend this rose, if you have the space!
