Alba (Unknown, discovered prior to 1623)
Alba Semi-plena the oldest of the Alba roses and is one of the most historically significant roses you can grow in your garden. It is widely considered to be the heraldic emblem of the House of York used during the War of the Roses in the 15th century. In early summer, rounded buds emerge and open into semi-double, pure white blooms with pronounced yellow stamens. Blooms carry a fresh scent with hints of citrus and cherry. Typical of Alba roses, the foliage is a gorgeous gray-green with tones of blue. This rose can get large, reaching 6 to 9 feet in most areas. Will set oblong, red hips in the fall.
