Polyantha, (Demits, United States, 1981)

This unique polyantha was introduced to us by Mikl Brawner of Harlequin’s Gardens in Boulder, CO and we are happy he did. The Gift has a strong fragrance emanating from clusters of white flower on a controlled four foot bush. If you’ve ever had to fight Darlow’s Enigma into submission, this is a great alternative.

Growth habit seems to be low and sprawling. It flowers frequently. Blossoms last for a day or two and smell like honeysuckle. Scent is noticeable if you put your nose right to the flower. My Gift is small and lives in a pot, so it’s possible the scent becomes stronger if you have a large bush in mass bloom.

Planted in the ground in late fall in Texas, and by the following May it had sprawled 4 feet in every direction. Beautiful small white blooms in clusters, good repeat, and seems to love sun and heat. Since I wasn’t planning on it being a ground cover, I dug it up recently (in June which is a terrible time to replant). I potted in a large container. It did wilt but is slowly regaining its vigor. This rose weeps or cascades beautifully in a pot! I am going to get another one this fall for a second large pot.
