An absolute star at the center of my rose garden. Rising from the ground and growing up on each of the 4 supports on an iron gazebo, Fourth of July is truly a little bit of fireworks in the midsummer garden. The distinction between the red and white on the petals is easily seen from a distance and really adds to the sparkling effect. Have not any special problems with this rose, just the normal seasonal or beetle issues. It has been a long time in my garden, over a dozen years, and comes back from Zone 5 winters strongly. Thorniness can be an issue with some climbers as they can reach out and grab you if you are not paying strict attention, and Fourth of July has snagged me more than once. Just keep those canes wrapped around their supports and it will present a lovely show during the summer.

This is my second year growing Fourth of July, and it’s proving to be a lot like Altissimo (one of its parent roses)?in growth habit. The canes are not as flexible as many of my climbers, and I have it kind of espaliered on a trellis, which is how I train Altissimo as well. I absolutely love the flowers on this rose-the striping is gorgeous and it looks wonderful with my Black Forest rose in front. The leaves are very healthy and the hips in the fall are very beautiful.

I had no idea how much I would fall in love with this rose. I had previously thought I was not a fan of variegated roses. As I write this it is the almost the end of September and she is still blooming like crazy. Huge sprays of these beautiful blooms. She will keep blooming right up till the end of the season with little fuss. She is very thorny but well worth it. Lovely hips.

I absolutely adore this rose even though it doesn’t produce a lot of blooms for me quite yet. THE FLOWERS ON THIS CLIMBER JUST JUMP OUT AT YOU. I saw it at a house in Newport RI and asked the owner what it was called, because I just had to have it. No photo does it justice. This is my second try growing it in a very busy area of my sunny garden where it competes with rampant Apothecary roses and other heirlooms. Nonetheless, it seems to be holding its own with the invaders!

Hmm….Underwhelmed with this rose – Has no scent, blooms in flushes (twice a year) and has prime real estate. FYI – the rose is mature, 15yrs old. Meh.
Zone 9B central CA – I wonder if this might be more for colder climates.?. The leaves never drop…So the green is healthy, strong. looks more like a bush.
