Climber (found)

A very hardy climber grown near Jensen, Utah since the 1920’s, the blooms are full, deep pink to cherry red and fragrant. The massive early summer display is followed by occasional repeat bloom and large hips. The sturdy canes can reach up to 15 feet in Zone 5!

Hattie Burton was a pioneer who settled in Jensen, Utah in 1888 where she and her husband operated a ferry boat on the Green River. She passed the rose on to family members who have given pieces of it to many rose growers in this area.

Very healthy plant. Medium growth rate on the shadier side of the house. Very beautiful foliage!

This beautiful rose has survived in my front yard, which is south-facing with major exposure to sun, heavy wind, bitter cold, and all sorts of other terrible mountain weather for well over ten years now. She was my first attempt at growing roses at 8,530 feet elevation, and she is still my favorite. I purchased directly from High County Roses. She is consistent and dependable, probably like the real Hattie Burton, and I love her. She is not a true climber in my region due to the very cold and long winters as the canes die back severely most years. But she is a beauty and very much a cherished specimen. I highly recommend this rose for mountain regions as she has proven herself to be a tough old bird of the absolute BEST kind.
