Polyantha (Alphonse Alégatière, France, 1888)

Marie Pavié is a reliable and versatile performer in even the toughest gardening situation. Clusters of 1 1/2″ white blooms grace this plant throughout the growing season. The compact size (up to 4′) in combination with its nearly thorn-less canes makes for an ideal container plant or landscape accent.

This is such an easy care and delightful rose. I have it in my front yard because I know it always looks great and does well in my mixed border along with iris and daylilies. I think it would look gorgeous in a container as well.

My best performer season-round. Even in October in southern Ohio (zone 6b on the new USDA map) she still has blooms. My plant is maybe 10 years old and was about 4-4.5′ tall. Last winter hurt quite a few shrubs incl roses on their own roots — she died back to a large (2″ diam) main stem with two viable branches, but recovered well and flowered regularly if a little later than usual. Never has blackspot. Highly recommended!

I received a good sized band and was so happy to see it flowering! It made it through the heat wave in the summer but then succumbed to heat damage despite daily watering on drip irrigation. Next time, I’ll pot it up first before planting into the garden bed!
