I live in the midwest even with our winters both bushes bloomed the second year I am so happy with my blush damask.

I purchased this rose in April last year, and it came to me in a very weak condition. Thin stems and black spot on all the leaves. It grew only one new shoot after it was purchased and in March of this year, it decided to bite the dust. I was very disappointed as this was meant to be the first Damask in what will be a Damask collection in my garden. I sent an email to High Country roses as soon as I got the rose, I think within the same month, with no response. I have other roses in my garden from other growers that are thriving, so I don’t think it was my garden conditions that killed it. It really did try to hold on for as long as it could.

I grew this rose for 7 years at a farm I rented in zone 3 North Dakota. It was in a brutal spot where it got blasted regularly with 40-55 mph winds coming off a huge Monsanto field that was regularly sprayed with herbicide (I was not the farmer spraying to be clear, just the renter living at the house. There was a rose next to it that was susceptible to black spot (probably in part due to the brutal conditions). The full sun (16 hours in summer) was brutal and unrelenting. The winters are a special kind of brutal. This happened to be the most unprotected spot in that garden. And got the burnt of all the bad. Wind that rips leaves against canes etc. This rose was disease free and had incredible strong leaves. The description above saying “it forms a dense upright shrub” is entirely accurate. This rose is thorny, I advise wearing protection when pruning. But the blossoms are beautiful, big, and wondrously fragrant. This bush bloomed full and impressively every summer. And was also impressively hardy, a little die back on the ends but we had 50 mph winds in -35°F in those winters with only half snow cover. It grew to a height there of about 3 feet tall there because of the brutal conditions. When I moved to my home with my husband in 2021 I did not take this rose with me because it was too formidable to try to dig up. I can only imagine how it would thrive in a kinder location. I am still in zone 3 but no longer on the prairie but in the Turtle Mountains. Away from herbicide drift and brutal winds and plan on growing it again in a sheltered sunny location. I will update in a few years.

I would add one more thing to my above review on Blush Damask – the flowers do look exactly like the pictures. I think they’re very romantic, And apologies for all of my typos above. I’m submitting my review from my phone and don’t catch everything before I hit submit.

I bought my 2 blush damasks and 2 autumn damasks 3 years ago. When I first opened the package, I thought they were too small and weak. In the first year they just survived. The second year they had a few blooms. This year they are almost 6 by 6 ft. They started to bloom around 2 weeks ago. They have new blooms every single day. I visit them at sun rise every morning and breathe the fresh air full of the divine rose scent. It is not only roses, but a therapy for the mind and the soul. I am in love with these roses. I want to fill my backyard with damask roses.
