Hybrid Rugosa (Explorer Series, 1968)
***Still Growing – Status update in April 2025***
Fragrant, soft pink, double blooms in mid-season repeat nicely. Vigorous, well- proportioned shrub with grey-green foliage and red fall color, growing with an upright vase shape to 6 feet. Very hardy.
This Canadian Explorer rose is named after Sir Martin Frobisher (c. 1535 or 1539 – 15 November 1594) an English seaman who made three voyages to the New World to look for the Northwest Passage. All landed in northeastern Canada, around today’s Resolution Island and Frobisher Bay.

Lisa Koorn –
One of the loveliest Rugosas in my opinion! I love the pastel pink and yellow with the white. It rebloomers really well and is healthy to boot!
Ernie DeMarie –
I put this rose in a spot that might not be ideal with a neighbor’s tree roots infiltrating the area, thus is hasn/t grown very large yet. But is flowers are really beautiful and fragrant and each year it gains a bit more size. I can wait, the flowers are worth it.
Michael Wood –
Martin was planted in my Zone 5 garden just this past spring and grew about 3 feet in one season from about an 8-inch tall plant. I love pink roses and the blooms are in tightly packed highly fragrant clusters on strong canes. About halfway through spring, I noticed about SIX bright red basal break canes popping above the mulch. This one’s a winner for sure and the shape of it is going to be perfect at the point of an elongated bed. It’s obvious already that the upright vase shape holds correctly in the description.
