Very healthy, enormous blooms. Zone 6a (formerly 5b) upstate NY, mid Hudson valley. Planted late June 2024 into a large pot which received dutiful water and fertilizer, but perhaps not the absolute sunniest spot I have available. Regardless, this plant sent up three 3-3.5′ canes at lightning speed, each stacked with large immaculate leaves. In classic hybrid tea style, each cane dutifully brought forth one gloriously full classic shaped yellow rose at the top spanned over the course of the season. Two in September, and one final hurrah in October around halloween. She got moved to a permanent spot in very sunny ground late September and still put out that last bloom, and had another swollen bud hoping for its day. Although the few canes grew thick, I doubt the remaining stalks will survive green in my climate. I am not worried though, because it is own root and because the plant did not show a single sign of stress throughout the season. Excellent long lasting focal specimens in the vase. The way these roses open up ever further over the course of a week in the vase is pretty breathtaking. Once fully open these were 5-6″ across, ombre color from yellow to streaks of bronzey orange to cream. Getting a sense that High Country Roses gets you great plants for a great price, but you may have to have a bit of patience to let them size up and mature. For a late planting and subprime pot I have high hopes. Also getting a sense that these hybrid teas respond vigorously to cutting hard into the plant during the growing season.
