I fell in love with these roses after seeing a post on Instagram. I ordered three in 2021, all arrived looking good. I planted them when it was very hot and dry in our region (Zone 4). They were planted in full sun and received water from a hose as it was very dry last year. Only 1 of the 3 survived and I didn’t hear back after emailing customer service, hence the rating. I was disappointed that two didn’t make it because they all received the same attention. I am an experienced gardener, but know things don’t always work out. I keep telling myself it was a hard year on them. The one that did live, grew well and even had a couple small blooms. They didn’t look quite as gradient as the picture, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed they will have more color variation in their second year. I am going to order 2 more replacements and hope that they will do better this year. I’ll leave an updated rating after I see how they do. Basing this rating on the fact that a couple of them died, and I never heard back after reaching out to customer service. It’s an expensive purchase, I had high expectations.

Hi Lindsay – I am sorry for any missed communication and I’m sorry to hear two of your roses didn’t make it this year. We have a one year guarantee on all of our plants and I’m happy to honor it. I will refund the replacement order you placed and send them as a warranty order. Thanks, Matt

I ordered three of these roses and planted them Spring 2021. They have all performed fantastically, even in fairly high heat/humidity (Zone 8b). The plants are very healthy, and they gave beautiful blooms their first year with vigorous growth (one is nearly 6′ high). I loved them so much that I ordered more for Spring 2022. Looking forward to more blooms Princesse Charlene for years to come.

I adore this rose. I planted it last year and it grew tall and strong from day one. Once it started blooming it did not stop until the frost. Blooms already were coming in huge and fragrant. My son has taken to sticking his nose deep in them and inhaling their scent. We just adore her. Thank you so much for curating such great rose stock. This is one of the star roses in my garden.

This is the first season, I just clipped and brought in two beautiful roses. The smell is sweet and fresh, we’ve been having high winds for several days and heat around 100F. Of course we keep them watered. I am very happy with their toughness, beauty and fragrance. .

I love this rose! It’s vigorous and healthy and quick to repeat even in +100F temperatures. The fragrance is gorgeous too.

If you want to have a spiritual experience, you need this rose and let your nose dive in!!
PCM is a vigorous, healthy plant with large blooms and the smell is amazing…fruity.
As a cut flower, beautiful in vase and the scent would stay lingering.

This is truly the most beautiful rose I’ve ever seen. The color is almost indescribable, a pinky coral, with more or less apricot depending on seasonal heat/cold. The ruffled petals are feminine and lovely. And beyond her visual beauty, Princess Charlene SMELLS incredible. She is a feast for the senses. I have two growing, with two more coming, and still want more of her!

Fabulous rose. It grows well in large planters or in the ground and puts on a good amount of growth in the first year. The blooms are glorious and the scent is wonderful. A must have for any garden, and I can’t think of a better place to buy it than HCR.

I garden in zone 7b with high humidity. PCdM grows fairly tall for us and is resistant to black spot. She is highly fragrant and a great repeat bloomer. For a video of the habit and bloom: https://youtu.be/5K_f7znYM7I

One of my all time favorite roses! I just love her color, her frills, and she is one of my very favorites for scent! I highly recommend everyone have this rose, or three!

First year rose review, spring 2023, zone 5b. From this order I purchased: Princess Charlene de Monaco, Koko Loko, Reine Des Violettes, Firefighter, Top Cream, Bolero, Ebb Tide, Apricot Twist, and Quicksilver. Quicksilver wasn’t ready by the early ship date so I switched it with Bliss. The order was packed well and shipped quickly. Everything arrived healthy and I was quite happy with this experience (first order from High Country and first time ordering band roses). I kept them in an unheated greenhouse until June, then moved out to a raised bed that I had planned to grow them out for the first year or so until I move them out to their permanent spot. It’s my second year growing roses and first experience with bands. Of all the new bands, PCDM had probably the most impressive vegetative growth, and is the tallest of the new roses from HC. Only a few flowers this year, she was definitely focused on growing first. Very pretty flowers, but not much scent this year. When the weather turned cold she did have some foliage issues, but wasn’t that bad. I can’t wait to see how she does in the future!

Beautiful rose, but struggles in my tough Western North Carolina environment. I would recommend this rose to those who don’t have blackspot in their area.

Beauty and fragrance are both incredible, and this on a disease resistant plant! What more could one ask for?

They have grown out beautiful and are so beautiful.

I didn’t get a single bloom off of this rose in her first year. I am inclined to think that maybe she needs more sun, but I have others right beside her in the exact same sunlight exposure and they were blooming well so I’m not sure what to think. I didn’t have any real problems with the rose, she just seems super slow compared to the others in her first year. Will see if it survives the 6B winter and what next year brings.

Charlene is vigorous, healthy, and gorgeous! Her blooms are breathtaking! She blooms all season and stays very healthy. Mine decided this fall to send one giant 6′ tall octopus cane to the sky and to put the most beautiful bloom right on top! 🤣

Just buy it, give it full sun. It’s an incredible rose. You won’t regret it (she’s an HT) so plan accordingly

I ordered 15 princess Charlene roses for members of our rose society. They all came healthy, and great that are growing well.
Linda Carolan –
Fast grower ! I didn’t think the fragrance was as good as Abraham Darby but the bar was set pretty high. A look alike for Abe , very pretty.

This is my girl. This is the rose that stops my heart. I could love this rose for it’s scent alone. Forget the hundreds of ruffled, just slightly peach or is it pink, petals. Forget that she is as hardy as any dismal knockout from the big box store, oh forget that. Bring in a bloom and sit with it as it ages. Learn its incredible scent. Know that this princess will one day be the queen of your garden and all visitors will forever remember this rose as it stood in shining the day they visited. She is ALL that.
