Hera’s Song

$25.95

Hybrid Musk (Andy Vanable, USA 2009)

Large clusters of repeat-blooming flowers. Bicoloring becomes more pronounced in cooler weather.

From the Hybridizer: Named in honor of Hera Votolato who was in a car accident and coma for many years. Doctors considered her brain-dead, but she wasn’t. Hera is the daughter of the former Rhode Island Rose Society president, Dacia Nickerson, who stood by her day after day and night after night until she came out of the coma.

This promises to be a healthy powerhouse dainty bloomer. First off, I am zone cheating. I’m in zone 3 North Dakota just a couple of miles from the Canadian border. I did cover with alfalfa hay for winter protection. But if it doesn’t survive, it’s my fault. Anyway, it arrived with long arching canes (for a band sized rose) with multiple buds on it and kept blooming almost continuously until winter. hit. I got this rose last summer (2024) and didn’t have time to plant it for about a month. The flowers are tiny and dainty, and the fragrance was most noticeable in the cool of the morning and was sweet. I couldn’t detect much scent in the heat of afternoon, but that may change with time. The foliage was totally healthy. If you’re looking for a fast growing, healthy rose with loads of dainty blooms and morning fragrance I’d say definitely get it. I’ll do future updates to let you know if I had success growing it in zone 3.
