I purchased and planted my Frida in early spring in North Texas. Frida’s first spot got a significant amount of shade. She grew pretty vigorously, tolerated the Texas heat, and was very healthy, but produced only 1-2 blooms at a time all summer. In late fall I moved her to a far sunnier spot. She tolerated the transplant extremely well, and within two weeks started producing 4-5 blooms at a time. In my climate, Frida’s beautiful blooms are a rich dark pink (not russet) with lots of delicate cream stripes. This is not a rose that blooms profusely in part shade. But give it a full-sun spot and watch it go!

A blooming machine in 10b. Our mild coastal temperatures mean she gets a full sun spot in the garden. In partial shade she is very stingy with the flowers. The flowers are a ruffly and gorgeous. The plant is healthy and a good size. It is a compact bush.

I’m not normally a variegated plant person, but I had to have this rose named after the famous artist (who I’m sure would have loved it). Now, this rose is amazing. Even the foliage is beautiful. Central Wisconsin, sandy soil, Zone 5a.
