  1. Rated 5 out of 5

    Angela Patterson – December 10, 2023

Ramblin’ Red has a deep red color which is velvety rich. It blooms in vigorous flushes which are intoxicatingly beautiful. The thorns, however, are wicked. I make sure to handle it gently because the thorns can pierce my leather rose gloves if I grasp the canes hard. It’s worth the extra care because its Zone 3 hardiness means it can handle my Zone 5a winters with ease (meaning minimal cutbacks in the spring). The canes grow like crazy, and they don’t mind my bending them to zigzag up the trellis, though I’ve started to let some of them just span an extra trellis panel wide before turning so they’ll mix with the rose next door. It bloomed up until freezing temperatures became a regular event, making it the longest blooming rose in my garden.
