Canadian Shipments

High Country Roses is pleased to be able to ship roses to Canada.   We love our neighbors to the north, and we’re happy to make our diverse collection of roses (especially cold hardy roses) available to all Canadians.  Our shipments are in compliance with all export regulations between our two countries and require no additional quarantine period.   As with all things bureaucratic, there are a few stipulations to be aware of:

  • All shipments (regardless of the number of plants in the order) require a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the USDA.  The cost of the certificate is $110 USD and is in addition to the cost of shipping and any applicable taxes or duties.
  • Obtaining the Phytosanitary Certificate requires an inspection and quarantine process at our greenhouse.  To facilitate that process, all Canadian shipments are processed and depart together on specified dates in the spring and fall.  The dates for shipments in 2026 are:  May 20th and August 26th.
  • To further facilitate the inspection process, and to insure no insects or plant pathogens are exported, all of our plants are defoliated prior to shipment.  Fortunately, roses regrow their leaves very quickly and plants should return to normal within a couple of weeks
  • All shipments to Canada are sent using UPS Standard International Service.  This is a ground transportation service that typically takes between 7 and 10 days.  We have had consistent success using this method.
  • If 2025 has taught us anything, it is that we have to be flexible.  We will do our best to deliver your plants on time and at our quoted rates.  Unfortunately, there is potential for unforeseen changes in tariff and duty rates in the future.  In 2025, we were able to ship roses early and avoid the price increase, but that may not always be the case.  Any additional tariff or duty that arises between the time quotation and the time of shipment will be passed on to the customer.  Likewise, in the event of a decrease, we are happy to refund you the savings.
  • Finally, Canadian shipments CAN NOT be processed by the website at this time.  Please use our Contact Form to email us a list of the plants you are interested in and include your shipping address.  We are happy to generate a formal quote for you.
