Mutabilis

$27.95

China (1894)

A striking combination with bronze young foliage and blooms opening yellow, then aging to crimson. Needs a sheltered, sunny location to survive in cold climates, though it is a vigorous climber and prolific bloomer in warmer regions.

A lovely rose, that quickly changes from yellow to pink in color. Can be grown as a bush rose, climbing up against a wall, or even as a small tree if you are in warm enough climates

Such a vigorous rose! I love how the flowers change colors. I really like the leaves on this rose, they’re very oval and pointy. It gives the rose a graceful look.

I love Mutabilis, its a free bloomer and grows fast but doesn’t get overly large, at least not yet. The way the flowers change color as they age makes a bush full of flowers especially pretty. It doesn’t have a lot of thorns compared to many other roses. Here in NY in what is now USDA bZ7a, not far from Z6b, it can get some dieback in a harsh winter but this past winter was exceptionally mild so no dieback and it even still has some leaves now in March.. The one thing it lacks besides really strong cold hardiness is a fragrance, but its still worth growing as its so colorful and unusual.

Fabulous unique rose. It grows quickly and I’ve found it to have a lovely fragrance. Seeing all different colored blossoms at the same time on the bush is quite pleasant. Mine died back and I planted another and then the old one came back too! It’s a must have rose.
