Damask (Julien-Alexandre Hardy, 1832)

One of the all time classic old garden roses, Madame Hardy features very double, soft white flowers with a green button eye and wonderfully intriguing fragrance. An exquisite show of blooms comes in late spring and is not to be missed. The plant is upright with stiff, spreading canes and rich green foliage.

Madame Hardy is attributed to the efforts of Julien-Alexandre Hardy, a rose breeding enthusiast who held the role of chief horticulturist at Paris’s Luxembourg Gardens.

Perfectly crisp white blooms cover this one….if you’re ok with once bloomers this is a must- it does take up a lot of space though

My plant just finished it’s second summer in my yard and is flourishing. I didn’t expect flowers it’s first spring since it was still small, but I did get about a dozen perfect flowers with a lovely scent. Now it is pushing 5’ high. I planted lots of tough / large roses at the same time, but this one is one of the biggest and happiest so far. 5b Denver area.

Phenomenal rose. Truly one of the most beautiful. The sepals are fern like and cover the buds giving the entire plant a mystical quality even before the buds open. Wonderful scent and long flowering. Healthy!

This classic Old Garden Rose is breathtaking in bloom, highly recommended.

This is one of the classic old roses, with absolutely picture perfect flowers. Mine stays quite upright and has never been happy since I moved it from where it had been for 20 years, but even a few of those perfect blooms are worth it. It also mixes well with lower perennials since it stands up so straight.
